She won't spin a fast one for the aunties Megha Kawalc was never really destined to work in the family business. Face it, there aren't too many six-foot beauties making compressor valves for a living Not that she didn't give it a go, but given the choice of making music or mechanical parts, there was no contest .

She was also needed on the catwalk, having been endlessly approached by agents and designers who thought she was destined for for runway stardom in India and beyond.

Megha still models, but is better known in Mumbai as the city's most glamorous DJ. Her spinning started full time five years ago. when she got a much sought-after residency in Hie 1900s club-at the Taj Mahal Hotel "As it was a private club with an elite International guest list I had to familiarise myself with all sorts of music for a wide age group; It was a great initiation." She doesn't play house or hip hop for aunties, yet charms younger guests with unusual Arabic mixes. Her approach means she's the must-have DJ for every big event.

Getting her granny into house, however, was a turning point in family relations for Megha, who had been branded a black sheep. "No one would speak to me until then/ she says softly.

Though she is still much in demand as a model, Megha hopes that her stints alongside British DJs will help her to break into the international circuit, and a French label releasing her first album Is certainly a good start * Not to , mention the fact that she's a lot better looking thaoJ Bov Slim.
